TIDY HOUSE

Project: Full refurbishment, Reconfiguration, Side Extension, Dormer.
Location: Crouch End, London
Year: 2023-2024

This Victorian terrace house in Crouch End hadn't been touched in 40 years, the design involved a transformative approach to modern living while preserving its historical charm.

The clients had experience remodelling other properties and a clear vision for their new house. After careful analysis of the property, the client’s brief and how they would use the house, time and construction costs; We suggested to not extend the house to the back, but instead to change the layout of the house and rebuilt the existing side extension.
The once dark and compartmentalised interior was opened up to create a spacious, light-filled environment, capitalising on the natural illumination from the south-facing garden. This was achieved by removing internal walls and installing large, glass Crittal style doors that seamlessly connected the garden to the living areas. The renovation also addressed the inadequate single bathroom by adding two more, including a luxurious en-suite in the newly extended loft space, which provided an additional bedroom and study area. It was important that all the spaces have a purpose, and a use. With the kitchen being the heart of the house.

What makes this project unique is that it shows that:

- A reconfiguration can often achieve more than an extension.

- Styling, interior design and storage doesn't have to cost the world to make a place look elegant and unique. It is all about having a vision and the confidence to follow it.

- You property should adapt to your lifestyle and how you use the space. In this case light played an important part. The front and back of the house is used at different times of the day. The kitchen is the heart of the house, which is perfect for dinner parties. There are a number of spaces that provide an inspiring working from home experience at different times of the year. The shaded seating in the garden, light dining room, cosy office on the loft…
The result is a harmonious blend of Victorian elegance and contemporary comfort, with an adaptable house perfectly suited for today’s lifestyle.
