Project: Side Extension, Partial refurbishment.
Location: Crouch End, London
Year: 2022
In this project, the client wanted to create more space for a larger dining table, aiming for a more inviting and spacious kitchen-diner to host dinner parties and family gatherings.
As the property is located in a conservation area, we worked closely with the conservation officer to secure planning approval while adhering to local guidelines. This collaboration helped us maximize the ceiling height within the allowed parameters.
We opted for a pitched roof extension to achieve the highest possible ceiling and incorporated Velux roof lights to enhance natural light and ventilation while staying within budget. Floor-to-ceiling glazing in an angular shape was added to create a sleek, minimalist look that seamlessly integrates the indoor space with the garden. The extension features a zinc finish to distinguish the new elements from the existing structure.
The client was thrilled with the final outcome, as the extended space not only improved the connection between the home and garden but also provided a functional, year-round area for gatherings. The project successfully uplifted the property’s value while maintaining the character of the conservation area.
