Project: Full refurbishment, Reconfiguration, Side Return Extension.
Location: Crouch End, London
Year: 2021-2023
What stands out about this project, is that it creates the ultimate family living space. It’s perfect for hosting dinner parties, playdates and everyday life, offering plenty of room for everyone to socialize comfortably without feeling crowded or overwhelmed by noise. The open-plan layout enhances the sense of space, bringing in ample natural light and seamlessly connecting the garden with the rest of the house.
The material palette was thoughtfully selected to reflect the clients desire for an industrial, yet welcoming aesthetic. We introduced exposed steel beams, brickwork, micro-cement and a Zinc exterior to highlight the raw elements of the building’s fabric in the new extension. In contrast, the front living room retains its Victorian charm with heritage colours and original features like cornice and cast iron fireplaces.
This project beautifully demonstrates how the kitchen can truly become the heart of a family home. The open space invites participation and connection, blending Victorian elegance with modern design to create a harmonious balance that feels both timeless and contemporary.
Originally, the Victorian terrace was divided into small, disconnected rooms, making it unsuitable for modern family living. The project aimed to open up the ground floor for better flow and expanded social spaces, including a kitchen with garden views, integrated with the playroom and formal living area, along with smart storage solutions.
The renovation has been divided into three phases: partial refurbishment, a side-return extension, and a future loft conversion.
